Hey everybody,

I've been struggling with this problem since quite a while now and my friend suggested asking for advice in this forum.

In advance: I'm rather noobish at computer stuff and have little experience.

Randomly, my PC just sometimes decides to completely lock up/freeze. When it happens, the only thing I can do is a hard-reset (holding power button).

It also happens very sporadically.

Sometimes, I can play the most demanding games for hours and it'll be fine. Other times I'm only doing desktop work and it freezes (not saying that it doesn't freeze in games).

Sometimes, it can happen many hours in after the bootup. Other times, it can freeze only 20 min after I started my computer.

It used to be, that every time it froze up, I heard a continuous buzzing sound. But lately, strangely enough, it doesn't even have the buzzing sound anymore. I'm so confused.

Specs:

Spoiler

- i7-6700K

- MSI GTX 970 4GB - Gaming4G

- MSI Mainboard B150M Pro-VDH

- Micron Crucial RAM DDR4 2x8GB 2133

- Toshiba HDD SATA 3,5" 1000GB

- LG DVD RW SATA 5.25"

- Crucial SSD SATA 250GB

- OEM Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit

- Scythe CPU Cooler Katana 4

- Sharkoon Media Reader III USB2

- Bequiet Powersupply ATX 600W System Power 8

I've read that a BIOS update MAY solve problems but I would rather consider doing that as a very last step as it seems to be very risky for a noob to make a mistake.

So maybe one of you guys knows what's happening and that it's not even the BIOS causing it, before I attempt anything.

Best regards,

Hi @RoK_24

Do you have an anti-virus installed? if so which one?

I would LOVE to get a hold of your event viewer logs and see if something is failing right around that time. Next time it freezes, would you be able to right away save them and attach it here? I want Application logs and System logs under your Windows Logs. (that's a lot of logs!) Below is how to export them if you're not familiar.

To export and archive an event log

  1. Start Event Viewer.

  2. In the console tree, navigate to the log you want to archive.

  3. On the Action menu, click Save Events As .

  4. In File name , enter a name for the archived log file.

  5. In Save as type , select a file format, and then click Save .

Cheers!

Hey @Syncrosys

right after freezing and booting up again, I was able to save these events:

Application logs: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0BwxueL8pyShrdEJycV9qdUNNVjg/view?usp=sharing

System logs: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0BwxueL8pyShrVjUxMktEeFYyTnc/view?usp=sharing

My money's on your hard drive failing. Either that or your motherboard's chipset or sata controller is failing. I would update your chipset and such... and

download https://www.harddisksentinel.com/hdsentinel_pro_portable.zip

It will run on a trial, but will let you check your HDD's ralibility. Run a test on it. Go balls out and make sure it scans everything. I've had bad luck on Toshiba drives, and I would not be surprised if this is what is ailing your rig.
