GPU for 2560x1440

If you are willing to spend $400, grab a 290.

 

I'm sure when the 290 non-reference cards come out (if they do), they'd be about $425. That seems like the best bet.

^^ This or if you can squeeze 400$ get a R9 290 with 4GB on a 512bit bus :)

AMD R9 280x or spend a little bit more and get R9 290. If you prefer Nvidia I think you can get 4GB GTX 770 for around $400.

Save up more to 500 and get a 780

I'd say a 280X for that res, it's a 3GB GDDR5 video card and should run quite well.

i would say that 3Gb is not enough for future, he should buy 290 if he can affort it.

Even i can use over 3GB of memory on 1080p:

Or get a non reference 290 and have the same performance for 100$ less

Never get the 4GB model of the 770

 

The mem bus isnt enough to use the full 4GB
