Hello,

Since a few days, I'm getting random black screen. Computer keep running (keyboard leds on, fans on, ...) but screens are totally blacks. One is plugged through HDMI and the other one through DVI. I've dig a bit on internet and it looks like a driver / gpu problem but I'd would like to know how I can be sure that it's that.

GPU isn't hot (40°C).

My config :

Asus Z170 A

i5 6600k

MSI R9 280X

Hoping you can help me,

TheMineGeek

Use ddu to uninstall drivers and then install them from gforce experience

Black screen is signal loss kind of problems. It's fairly common with HDMI. When you connect an HDMI the standar will attemp to handshake the higest norm available. Lets say your monitor has 1.3 and the gpu has 2.0 first it will get the ID from the TV, and then will attempt a handshake 1.3 version.

To discard a cable/handshake problem, try to repeat the test using ONLY DVI (one screen). If it goes black, test again with HDMI only (one screen).
One screen should work just fine. If not try a driver rollback, remove any overclock you may have on the card too.

If any of this works, i'd start searching in Windows Event Viewer (system tab) to see if any issue was reported there.

cheers!

@EthocreeperI have try to uninstall drivers with ddu and reinstall them but without any success. It was still a lot of crashed. What I've done is to plug my card on the first pci of my mobo and I have no more problems. Does it seems legit to you ?

if it works fine now it means that the problem is fixed

Maybe it is PCI-e port issue. Try to swap into another PCI-E port
