it means, it was saved in UEFI, so if you reinstalling windows 10, it will get activated instantly.

however the key only can be activated using that motherboard only, so if you swap your motherboard, you need to contact them to reactivate it again.

 

And there's a limit with that method, 5 is all I know but Linus said he done it more than 10 until MS told them to buy another key.

It will be unactivated but it will work forever. It will just stay unactivated untill you enter a key.
If it is unactivated you can just use it but you can't personalise it or use some features. It will also say "unactivated"  on your desktop
