I am building my wife a mini-itx and wanting to keep it under $1000 (close to the $900 range) here is what I have based on other opinions and I made a few changes. The processor is an I5 7th gen, be aware that she does game but nothing intensive, I have already considered the i7 7600 so no need to mention it. I am doing Newegg.com only for shopping. Below are the components which have me right at $900 - any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

any suggestions for the mobo? I have been pointed to ryzen several times, but no one ever seems to suggest a board that they would recommend.

Any B350 will do (personally I recommend mobo with 4 RAM slots, good VRM phase count and good VRM cooling)
Patch for RAM compatibility will come out soon so don't worry about high speed RAM not working, just get high speed RAM and you're good

I do believe you missed a major aspect of this build - it is a mini-itx build.

I think your build is quite good for the formfactor and usecase you are tackling. The only thing I would add is a decent low profile cpu cooler. I also added a better psu (the 550w was only 5$ less, so why not add the extra 5 bucks and get a 650w rated psu :P ).

Oh and if you can live without the SSD, you can get something like this:

EDIT: just noticed that the cpus don't use the newegg pricing. Should be about a 10-20$ difference.

That psu is $22 more expensive than the CXM. The CXM is $57.99 whereas the CSM is $79.99. A 450W would be enough to run this system. Also don't see the point in getting a cooler. The stock one will be fine.
