hdd HDD clears itself when unpowered

So ive just recently learnt that my 4TB WD Purple drive will clear all security footage from itself when the system turns off. And when the system boots it says the drive is not formatted?

What could be causing it? When the drive becomes formatted it will write to it normally, I can also go back and view the footage. But if the drive losses power it clears itself and I cant get any footage.

Have you tried it with another pc?
I'm not sure what else could really be causing it other than human error or some software/setting doing it.

The controller may have an issue, but it could also be the CCTV system itself.

It had faults with the original camera system it was going into. So im 100% sure its a drive problem.

I checked the same system with 2 other drives and it was fine with them. And the drive itself was having problems with the original system it was supposed to go into.

Well if other drives worked fine then most likely it's a problem with the drive. So it's probably best to buy a new one.

Faulty controller could cause it. I would contact WD for a replacement or, if you're willing, buying a spare controller and doing the replacement yourself.
