Hello there, I'm starting to plan a new build for july and I'm trying to determine whats the spacing in MM between the Pcie 1 and 2 of the ROG maximus IX extreme mobo. I need to verify so that both cards have enough spacing to run in SLI while on air and by enough I don't mean 1mm between each other :P

I'm not entirely sure what is the spacing is but I think is 10mm so it would be about 20mm

Im mostly on discord now and you can find me on my profile

the two 16X slots are 3 slots apart, so there should be a full slot between the GPUs. definitely enough room for airflow.

Sufficient for two of these?

If we're talking the spacing for SLI bridges, they're 60mm apart on that board. One full PCIe bracket/slot between two dual slot GPUs.

I wasn't refering to SLI bridge but while were at it, 61mm is the space in-between it seems. I'm trying to find out how much space there will be in-between with two of these:

----> Dimensions(with Bracket): 313*136.5*57mm

----> Dimensions(without Bracket): 327*153.7*57mm

one slot is 20mm.

so that's basically 3 slots.

there should be a few millimeters of space between two of those cards.

yeah so I would technically need to run an X99 mobo?

If they're both dual slot cards, you should have around 20mm of space between them.

EDIT: This is the spacing for your board

no.

the motherboard you showed can run the cards just fine. temps on the top card will be acceptable, but not amazing.

A spacing like this would be 4 slot spacing right? meaning if the cards are both about 60mm in depth there would be 60mm of space for airflow in-between rather than 20mm?

But the spacing between slot 1 and slot 4 like highlighted:

Slots

• 5 x PCIe 3.0 x16 slots (PCI_E1~E4, PCI_E6), support up to 4-way mode
- 1-way mode: x16/ x0/ x0/ x0/ x0
- 2-way mode: x16/ x0/ x0/ x16/ x0*, x16/ x0/ x0/ x8/ x0**
- 3-way mode: x16/ x0/ x0/ x16/ x8*, x8/ x8/ x0/ x8/ x0**
- 4-way mode: x8/ x8/ x0/ x16/ x8*, x8/ x8/ x0/ x8/ x4**

* For the CPU that supports 40 PCIe lanes
** For the CPU that supports 28 PCIe lanes

That's the usual SLI setup, but im confused by the card description that says its a dual slot but also points out its 57mm in depth.

Dimensions(with Bracket): 313*136.5*57mm

Dimensions(without Bracket): 327*153.7*57mm

- Slot Size Dual Slot

Doesn't 60mm = 3 slot?

Ah, yeah, the cooler extends over the bracket quite a way. You'd have about 3-4mm clearance between the cards. While it will work, expect the top card to run hotter.

Would this be better? It will be running at x8, but meh whatever.

PCI Slots

2 x PCI Express x16 slots, running at x16 (PCIEX16_1, PCIEX16_2)
* For optimum performance, if only one PCI Express graphics card is to be installed, be sure to install it in the PCIEX16_1 slot; if you are installing two PCI Express graphics cards, it is recommended that you install them in the PCIEX16_1 and PCIEX16_2 slots.

2 x PCI Express x16 slots, running at x8 (PCIEX8_1, PCIEX8_2)
* The PCIEX8_1 slot shares bandwidth with the PCIEX16_1 slot and the PCIEX8_2 slot with PCIEX16_2. The PCIEX16_1/PCIEX16_2 slot operates at up to x8 mode when the PCIEX8_1/PCIEX8_2 is populated. (All of the PCI Express x16 slots conform to PCI Express 3.0 standard.)
2 x PCI Express x1 slots
(All of the PCI Express x1 slots conform to PCI Express 2.0 standard.)

Yes, that would work. They will run at 8x, but even the top end cards aren't quite to the point where they're fully utilising it yet.
