Hi people, I work at a vet and people here are currently complaining on some specific pcs performance. The thing is, there are plenty here, and some of them work just fine, but there are two in particular that are way too slow.

Well, the thing is, that they both run on LGA775, so i figured that if I replaced the crappy ones' cpu and ram and level it with the ones that perform well, they should perform kinda the same. The thing is that they work on different chipsets, and I dont really know if that would be a problem

The PCs are used for basic web browsing, text editing and usage of a network program for entering patient data and stuff

The specs of both systems

The crappy ones

CPU: Intel Dual Core E2180

RAM: Kingston 1GB DDR2 @ 667MHz

MB: Asus P5GC-MX

Chipset: Intel Lakeport-G i945GC

The good ones

CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo E8400

RAM: Samsung 4GB DDR3 @ 1333MHz (2x2GB)

MB: Hewlett-Packard HP Compaq 8000 Elite SFF PC (It's a prebuilt system)

Chipset: Intel Eaglelake Q45

So, I was thinking on buying a couple of Core 2 Duo E8400 and some 2gb sticks of ddr2 @ 800MHz (I dont think jumping from ddr2 to ddr3 will make a big performance difference), to end with the following specs

The new hopefully not crappy one

CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo E8400

RAM: Generic 4GB DDR2 @ 800MHz (2x2GB)

MB: Asus P5GC-MX

Chipset: Intel Lakeport-G i945GC

So, would this work ?

Thanks in advance for the help !

It would work but you'd be better of replacing them with a cheap mini pc from either Intel or Gigabyte

Or better yet wait for r3 and build several new $500 systems...

Technically, yes, it would work and help a lot, mostly in the RAM department. However, at this point, I'd recommend shelling out a few hundred bucks for a couple of MiniPC's from Lenovo, HP, or Dell with modern CPUs and hardware. They'll last a lot longer than upgrading these systems, and not be as expensive to maintain in terms of IT costs.

Its pretty hard making my bosses spend money, I know that would be the best option, but pc hardware is pretty expensive here in Argentina

Ah wonderful, sounds like Canadia land. We're not quite that expensive, but I've seen the $550 USD 6th gen i3 models sell for around $900 CAD, which is $150 more than they should be based on conversion.
