Hi guys,

so I bought my pc parts about 1- 1 1/2 years ago and built my first own pc. And since well almost the beginning I had a lot of problems. Yeah I know it is maybe a lil too late to ask for help but I just want to find out what part is responsible for my problems and then just smash it to pieces :D (also I'm a lil lazy).

So first of all here are my specs:

Mainboard:

Asus Z97 - Pro Gamer (before: Asus MAXIMUS VII Ranger Z97  ... more on that later)

CPU:

    Intel Core i7 4790k

Cooler:

    be quiet! Dark Rock 3

GPU:

    Asus GTX 770 4GB VRAM

RAM:

    8GB Corsair Vengeance DDR3

Power supply:

650W be quiet! Power Zone Modular 80+ Bronze

Hard drive:

    1TB Seagate SSHD ST1000DX001

Monitor:

    LG 24MP58VQ-P

Yes i know not the best combination of power supply and cpu but well that was my first pc ^^ (I allready tested some better power supply)

So lets get to the problem.

My problem is that my pc kind of crashes. It doesn't fully crashes I just get a message on my screen telling me that it can't get any signal or rather "Out of range: *some Hz values* " OR I get some kind of black screen that can sometimes be a pink screen or green screen too. Some times I still can hear people on the TeamSpeak and I can also talk to them. But in each case I have to restart my pc.

So the problem occurs while playing games but the amusing part is that it mainly occurs after closing the game or during loading times like loading another map in Battlefield or even loading the next district in older games like Dead Island, it really rarely occurs during the actual gaming. Also while doing some benchmarks it worked fine but after closing the benchmark my pc crashes.

It helps a little to set the lowest graphics for each game to maximise gaming time but it doesn't prevent the problem.

About the new mainboard. The old one had some loosen cpu pins (I was ultra careful at building the pc so I don't think that was my fault.. but well) so I bought a new one.

I did some test by myself, gave my pc to a hardware repair store and also send some parts to the retailer where I got them.

The RAM was tested by me and the repair store and we found nothing.

The GPU and CPU were tested by the retailer and they found nothing.

The hard drive seems to be ok aswell.

As I said i allready tried another power supply.

Monitor seems to be ok aswell.

Temperatures are ok aswell.

It's like I'm cursed or the like ^^

Well I hope some of you can help me.

Thx a lot, the freshman :)

Seeing as though you mentioned that the problem occurs while you're in the loading screen, it could be your SSHD. You'll have to see what other people say though.

Can you post the exact content of the warning messages?

As for the crashes, if your pc recovers after the crash (the game crashes back to windows) then I'd say it's likely a problem with your storage drive. If instead everything crashes and you have to reboot I'd tend to blame the graphics card or possibly the power supply.

You can try to diagnose the sshd with something like crystaldisk info. As for the graphics card, you could try running without it (using the integrated gpu) to see if the problems still occur - if they do, the problem is elsewhere.

Don't ask to ask, just ask... please 🤨

sudo chmod -R 000 /*

  • 3 weeks later...

Well about a week ago a friend of mine helped me with my problem. We kind of fixed it by doing some changes in the Nvidia Control Panel. The major change we did was to change the power management mode from "optimal" to "prefer maximum performance". My friend thinks that my system was kind of overloaded by the graphics card clocking up and down for every process and maybe the maximum performance prevents it from doing that.

Since then I can play every game and my PC doesn't crash anymore I only get some kind of blue or green screen on my second monitor very rarely when I shut down my PC.

Now the question I'm asking myself... well and you... shouldn't my PC build handle the "normal" kind of power management on my GPU? Or maybe my GPU or else is still damaged but the power management on "maximum performance" is somehow working its way around the real problem.

Sincerely,

TheFreshman
