I've spent months researching into Hackintosh and have read lots of articles concerning this topic.

The website I'd recommend you if you're into Hackintosh would be: http://www.tonymacx86.com/home.php

In the process of building a Hackintosh you'll have to start from the CPU choices. Well you have to ignore the AMD brand

because it is not compatible with OS X. So you're left with Intel. Pretty much anything from the 1155 socket will work (Sandybridge or Ivybridge).

As for the motherboard you are required to make some specific choices.

With Mountain Lion, Gigabyte 7 Series motherboards work OBO, and don't need any mods (DSDS or bios flashback).

If you consider yourself a noob in Hackintosh, I'd recommend these boards to you.

Some of the Series 7 motherboards that tonymac recommends are :

GA-Z77X-UP5-TH,

GA-Z77-DS3H,

GA-Z77X-UD5H.

If you want to take it a little further and not be constrained to these choices there are other boards from brands other than Gigabyte that will work with OS X if you flash the BIOS to a modified version. Semisnake has a website where he explains the process and has compatible BIOS for a range of motherboards. Generously he has put a section in his website where you can request the BIOS, if your motherboard is not in his list.

Here is the article in which Semisnake explains why you have to flash the BIOS if you don't have a Gigabyte Series 7 motherboard:

http://www.tonymacx86.com/dsdt/47397-msi-asrock-foxconn-1155-patched-bios-thread.html

This is Semisnakes website where you'll find the modified BIOS for different motherboards that will work for OS X:

http://biosrepo.wordpress.com/

As for Graphics Card the GeForce 600 Series are fully compatible with Mountain Lion. On the other side the ATI 7000 Series aren't compatible with OS X.

If you're considering for older versions the GeForce 500 Series are compatible with Mountain Lion together with ATI 6000 Series, but I'd recommend you to research for compatibility with OS X before buying one.

Most of the SSDs, Hard Drives and RAM work OBO, but still research in tonymac's website for any possible incompatibility.

What's left is the Power Supply which won't effect OS X, so you're free to make any choice as long as it can deliver power to all the components.

Again if you're a noob tonymac's website is the place where you'll have to start. If you don't feel comfortable of taking the risk of buying parts that aren't compatible OBO, this website

has two sections where you'll find tonymac's recommended parts for a build that will work OBO, and a section where you'll find pre-done builds by the users.

Wow. Thanks man! You really know your Hackintoshes. I am looking towards a GA-Z77-DS3H, i5-3570K, GTX 660 and 16GB of RAM so hopefully come around my birthday, I'll have a new hackintosh! Thanks again, and sorry for the late reply, I have been busy and have not been able to check the forums. Thanks.

Good luck with your build!

With the latest update of OS X 10.8.3, the graphics choices have been slightly diversified.

This latest update adds support for AMD Radeon 7000 series to OSX.

The devices supported from the red team are these ones: AMD Radeon HD 7750, 7770, 7870, 7950 & 7970.

So after all you don't have to be constrained into only picking a graphics card from the green team.
