Ey

I'm building a gaming rig for a friend, as he's currently on a rather moderate laptop. He's got a relatively alright budget of 1000-1200$ for the tower with windows. He'll be playing CSGO, BF4, BF1 and Overwatch at 1080p60Hz. I've compiled a few options for him. He wants a white and black themed build, case with a side window and it should be as quiet as possible. I've looked at something like a i5 7500, Asus b250 mATX board, Asus Dual GTX 1060 6gb, in a defince c with a corsair cx550m (silver label). However, with these parts there is very limited headroom in terms of aesthetics, with sleeved cables, LEDs and such (Prices here in Norway for hardware are often quite bad, so 1200 here isn't gonna get him a 7600k, z270 and 1060/70. I'm wondering if something like a pentium g4560 + 1060, 1050ti or rx 570/80 would be alright? I know you would usually focus on pure performance in this price bracket, but he really wants it to look nice aswell. I've ofcourse seen the benchmarks where they get 60fps at 1080 with the pentium and 1050ti in BF1, GTA 5 and all that, but i'm worried the two hyperthreaded cores may cause some stuttering or something, in terms of frametimes when not just looking at min and avg fps. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

I'm not an intel fanboy either, I was just looking for input :)

I could consider the Ryzen CPUs, though a 1500x is just as much as a 7500 here, I may opt for it as I can overclock it a bit with a decent b350 mobo. The 580s are around 360 dollars here, and the cheapest 16gig kit is almost 180. The thing I am slightly concerned with, however, is the early adoption problems some poeple have been having with the Ryzen chips.

Get an R5 1400 + B350 motherboard. That should allow you to simultaneously save some money without having to give up almost any performance... and it would certainly be better than a pentium. not to mention you then can overclock your R5 if you feel the need for more speed.

as far as aesthetics go, you just aren't being very imaginative. A board like the B350M Mortar (or B350 Tomahawk, the ATX version) looks pretty good, doesn't cost a ton (unless thats different where you live) and also comes in an "arctic" finish if black/white is more your thing. then just find some black/white RAM and black/white GPU and you're good to go.

Just heard people have had some problems with ram speeds, stabilisation and some stuff. I guess it migh have been fixed with some BIOS updates though :)

nawh, the "problem" they're having is that they cant necessarily run at speeds like 3200MHz+ (yet).... but that is hardly necessary. it will definitely always get better going forward and it certainly shouldn't prevent you from investing now.

I didn't tell you to get thr 1500X. You can get 1400 and OC it to achieve a similar performance with the 1500X

that is the motherboard of which I spoke. It has pretty much everything a guy could want out of a board these days and is relatively quite cheap. if ATX is more your thing, get the Tomahawk Arctic instead (basically the same board/features in a larger form factor). drop in any black/white RAM of your choosing (there are so many out there I won't bother telling you what to get) and then a GPU with a nice backplate if aesthetics are your concern (the unending argument of 1060 6GB vs 480/580 doesn't really matter all that much).

Hey, a fellow Norwegian.

Here's what I came up with, having some aesthetics in mind. White case with black components and a silver/black GPU ok?

B350 Tomahawk 1189,- Cdon
Ryzen 5 1400 1839,- Komplett
EVGA GQ 650W 849,- Komplett
Phanteks P400S Tempered Glass, white 999,- Komplett
Corsair 8GB 3000 MHz Vengeance LPX 779,- Cdon
128 GB Intel 600p 739,- Komplett
1TB Seagate Barracuda 529,- Cdon
MSI 1070 Quick Silver 4499,- Proshop

11 422,-

https://pcpartpicker.com/list/MzHN7h

You can change the 1070 for an RX 580 8GB or 1060 6GB of your choice if this goes over the budget, or if you want to invest in some decorations (LED strips, braided cables etc). The PSU I chose is much better than the CX. I'm a bit unsure whether all the parts are in stock atm, even though I tried to remember to check it.

Note that I forgot to add Windows to the price :P
