For overall performance i think the upgrade to FX-8350 from a phenom X4 would be a pretty huge. I also prefer a single powerful GPU rather than crossfire/SLI because as you probably know two video cards does not equal twice the performance. If at some point down the road your PC is struggling with games you can just sell your 660 and buy a next gen video card.

Note: Is there any specific game that your computer can't handle or do you want to upgrade just for the sake of upgrading?

Yea, What Tarkein said. I would pickup the 8350 and overclock it along with your video card you would notice a huge improvement.
