To start off, I'm getting a Ryzen 5 1600, and I heard ram speed matters alot for Ryzen, so I wanted to get faster ram, but I'm in a weird spot with it.

Okay, I'm looking at the ASUS b350 plus vs the X370 Prime. The X370 is 50 dollars more, but supports 3200 mhz vs 2666mhz ram. I can get G.Skill 3200mhz ram for only 2 dollars more than 2666mhz, but I"d still have to pay 50 dollars more for a mobo that supports it.

Also, FlareX and other AMD/Ryzen certified ram seems important... is it? Can I just go with any ram or should I get FlareX/ram build for ryzen? Do I pay the 50 dollar premium?

I havent really looked since I am a pretty big ASUS fan. i wouldn't mind going to gigabyte or MSI. What should I look at?

MSI B350 supports 3200mhz for 108$ https://pcpartpicker.com/product/Y4kwrH/msi-b350-tomahawk-atx-am4-motherboard-b350-tomahawk

Well the pricepoint is near ASUS's anyways and with MSI and Gigabytes B350's, they both support 3200mhz ram

The board is important. Make sure you get one with the features you need now and ones that you'll use later. SLI support? Ample USB? PCIe 16x slots? Et cetera.

Edit: Performance itself doesn't increase or decrease with the motherboard.
