So I am about to begin building my first gaming PC, purchased all the parts, just need put together. However I am completely new to this, I understand how to build the PC, how to install the OS. Its just what after that, other than downloading games and beginning to play them, is there anything else I should do or any software I should use to monitor my temperatures, optimize my cpu and gpu, etc. My spec is as follows;

CPU - AMD Ryzen 1600

GPU - MSi RX580 8GB

MOBO - MSi B350 Tomahwak

RAM - Corsair Vegeance 2x8GB (3000MHz)

PSU - Corsair RM650x

Case - Corsair Carbide Series Spec-03

Storage - 240GB SSD

Any help on any software I should download or processes I should carry out to optimize by build would be much appreciated, this is my first time doing this and I am learning as I go along

When I rebuild my pc after cleaning it, I never check temps etc. When I'd build a new system, and I keep everything @ stock speeds, and I know I've got good components... I don't need to know that kind of stuff.

Only when I want to OC or if the system gets unstable, I might want to check things with that kind of software.

Personaly, when I do a fresh install, I will install all required drivers. Change lots of settings in Windows, and personalize things. I'd also install software which I like to use. (Irfanview, office, MP3 alarm clock and some other stuff) But that can be compaired with "games", since that's stuff I'd need for daily usage. (if your daily usage is only games, you wouldn't need to do that)

First off, you need to check if you RAMs are even compatibile with this motherboard.

Check at what frequency it's running in BIOS.

Update BIOS.

Install Windows

Install drivers

Update drivers/windows

Download HWmonitor or HWinfo to see your temperatures.

Download AIDA64/Prime95 to check if your PC is stable. I would run it for few hours and monitors temps.

Download Valley benchmark and test your GPU if it's working as it should, overclock it if you want and check how stable it is.

Download RivaTurner and MSI afterburner to have info about your CPU and GPU temps in game while you are playing.

Start using your PC normally.

And if you want to get a bit advance, try to overclock your CPU.

Intel i7 12700K | Gigabyte Z690 Gaming X DDR4 | Pure Loop 240mm | G.Skill 3200MHz 32GB CL14 | CM V850 G2 | RTX 3070 Phoenix | Lian Li O11 Air mini

Samsung EVO 960 M.2 250GB | Samsung EVO 860 PRO 512GB | 4x Be Quiet! Silent Wings 140mm fans

WD My Cloud 4TB

Recommend using ninite to install all your basic software quick and easy, you just pick the stuff you want from a list, and it makes a custom installer for you that will install everything for you without any input. Also if you wonder about anything during your build process LTT has numerous build videos you can consult.

You've got Speedfan if you want to monitor your fans, think it also reads temps, so nice if you want to check up on everything running as it's supposed to. MSI Afterburner to check your card out, set custom fan curves and/or overclock your GPU.
