Help with Programming

Hi guys, 

this is my first topic in programming and I am here because I don't know how to program something and in what language. I know only basics for example in python, but I can do something else. My group is making a project. We will make an encryption device with raspberry pi zero and it will be in shape of Enigma. If you guys could give me some advice about language, encryption, encryption key... I hope guys you could help me!
