I'm looking for case recommendations that have a horizontal motherboard tray. The only good options I've found are the Thermaltake Core X9 and the Cooler Master HAF XB Evo. I'm a little bit scared of the size of the x9 but I'm not sure the XB Evo will be big enough for custom liquid cooling. I would strongly prefer to stick to ATX but if anyone has an awesome mATX to suggest I'm still interested. Also, if anyone has experience liquid cooling in the XB Evo then I would like to hear about what you thought. I've done some research with no real luck. With my browsing of this thread from overclock.net I haven't found a custom loop with both CPU and GPU being cooled. I really like the case, I just don't know how well it will work.

Thanks in advance!

Check out this, it was a project I did with the Thermaltake Core X9

You are right the case is huge, at the time (I even messaged TT about it) the X5 was for M-atx/itx only, but apparently it now supports ATX:

That may be more manageable

I was very interested in the air 540 until I realized that it's just a wide tower. I really wanted to try something out with a horizontally mounted motherboard tray. As for the mercury s5, it seems pretty solid but everything from caselabs seems to be crazy expensive and it doesn't support ATX. I'll have to do some more measurements and comparisons to see if I can make the x5 work. It doesn't look that much smaller but maybe I'm wrong.

Well the Air 540 can be mounted on its side. I was one I toyed with, be ye, the X series are pretty big, but outside caselabs, our options are limited

I should've thought about mounting cases on their side more. I've found that on most cases it's not the most practical thing so I've been searching for cases specifically built with horizontal mounting in mind.

The x5 was a great find though. It's still quite a bit bigger than the HAF XB EVO so I'll keep watching for people's opinions on that.

Depends on the mobo, I assume atx or eatx if you wanted the x9. I really don't mind mine. Quite large but it fits in.

Mick Naughty, how do you like the Air 540 vs the x9? I see that you're using the air 540 for your main rig so I might as well ask. I'm trying to narrow down my choices. I would probably go for the x5 but they're similar enough and I could always stack it later if I needed the extra space.

Really, you ant compare the two but ill try. The x9 is almost twice as big. Has great storage and water cooling capacity. Compete opposite for the 540. I think the 540 can be built much cleaner and easier the any of the core series being dual chamber. The horizontal mobo mounting is quite nice and unique. The 540 as very easy to build in, but the x9 is even easier. The x9 has way more filtering stock. You can also swap the side panels and o/I to either side on the x9 making it great for people who want in on the left side of their monitor(s).

My x9 was used for a few days. It went back in the box and sat in my basement for over a year, still there. I feel as though I don't have enough to build in it properly. Cant justify spending the money fo a build that would suite it. Rebuilt my motor and trans last year and just dropped another 8k on it for a procharger and other essentials.

I would look up build on both that would seem like what you would do.

I prefer the 540 as its handled everything I throw at it. Even though I modded the back panel for another 360 rad. Cant bring my self to get ride of it. I like the way it fits in and is still stands out as cube cases never caught on.

That's really an awesome build! Sorry I'm about to head into my last week of classes before finals week so I haven't been able to check in here much. I think my decision is between the 540 and the HAF XB. I did some research on dimensions of the Thermaltake cases and the x5 is just as tall and deep as my Fractal Design R4 but significantly wider. I want a cube case but I'd prefer not to buy something quite so huge.
