Hey guys, having issues with my computer.

I've had it crash several times recently while in the middle of games. I've had 4 different error messages on the BSOD so far, in this order:

Kernel Security Check Failure

Kmode Exception Not Handled

APC Index Mismatch

System Thread Exception Not Handled

As my computer is like a child to me, I'm very worried about some file corruption going on. I thought the easiest thing to do would be refreshing my PC, or even reinstalling Windows on it, but I get an issue trying to do that as well:

Please, can anyone give me a  hand here?

Make a new bootable USB and reinstall windows and retrieve your files from windows.old. I had the same problem with Windows 10 and reinstalled Windows and it worked.

He lost the original and may be missing or have currupted data, so that option may be a no go for him.

Does windows update still work?

It does. Should I do all these optional updates and see if that fixes anything? My computer is still saying I have missing or corrupted files though, not sure if some minor updates will help with that

I could, but I'd have to go through the process of making the bootable USB and it's honestly been so long, I've forgotten what to do

You shouldn't need the original, as long as the hardware is the same it will recognize the windows as being registered. As for the missing/corrupted data it should still be in the windows.old file and can be fixed from there.

Try other techniques first, and if all come to no avail search up a quick video and it shouldn't take too long. It took me maybe 30 mins on my first try with no previous experience.

Download Windows 8.1 ISO From Microsoft

https://www.microsoft.com/en-in/software-download/windows8ISO

Then Burn A DVD if you have a Blank DVD-R or DVD-RW and a optical Drive,if you dont, use a software utility called Rufus, choose your USB Flash Drive and Select The Windows 8.1 ISO And Click Start (WARNING:ALL DATA ON THE USB STICK WILL BE LOST)and your bootable Windows Installation Media should be created, then try the recovery,if it doesnt work, reinstall Windows

That's the safest way, then do a full repair. It akes as long as a new install, but at least will keep your good data and files. Lots of updating, but better than starting from scratch.

when sfc \scannow fails it's a bad sign.

I've tried doing chkdsk before and it hasn't worked

sfc /scannow also tells me that it couldn't fix a few files

Try Running CHKDSK /f /r

I haven't had an error from sfc /scannow, it just tells me that it couldn't repair some of the files.

Yeah, I did, and it actually did something this time. I tried it yesterday and nothing happened, just booted up like normal. Anyway, it did it's thing but I'm still getting crashes so I'm going to reinstall Windows and all my files and programs will have to suck it up. If you know, can you give me a quick step by step on how to do the .iso business?

Download The ISO from the link i gave, then after the download is finished, get a usb stick and back up the stuff from your usb stick before it is erased in the process of putting the iso on the usb, then download rufus, and go,select your usb stick and in rufus and go,click the checkbox where it says something like 'create bootable, then go to the dropdown and select iso image and select your iso and click start,it should start and finish, then boot from ur usb and windows install should be normal from there, then enter your product key and activate windows, your usb will format
