So a friend of mine is looking to get into PC gaming. But he doesn't want to spend much, and since he has a Best Buy credit he only wants to purchase from there.

We can get a HP Elite 8200 SFF for $299 with a i7 2600, 4GB ram, and 2tb HD. I figure we can add a low profile 1050ti, some ram, and a SSD. All purchased from Best Buy.

Sounds like a good build. I've got a 1050 Ti, and so far it's pretty nice. It gets somewhere around 30-40fps in Unigine Heaven benchmark, at ultra settings (though my monitor is 1680x1050). In an older RC flight sim I have, it manages 60-120fps with everything maxed.

Um, take it apart first! From my exoerience, spending less than 400 bucks USD represents issues. You're getting a 250 to 300 watt proprietary PAY, and a MB that doesn't support expapassion. Generally, you've got a PSU with a 10pin power connection on the MB, and no ability to power anything else other than the 1 HDD.

Also, many come with only to RAM slots, so again, not much room for expansion. Great for playing Angry Birds, not good for much else.

My two cents.... Ask Geek Squad to open the side panel and look at it first. If you don't  nnow what you're looking at, they should be intelligent enough to help you.

For a brand new purchased from Best Buy?

I mean the HP Elite 8200 SFF is a little expensive for what it is, it's also NOT new, those are refurbished systems with no warranty ;)
