Psu Fan replacement

Hello guys! I'll be glad if u help me !

 

 My Psu Fan just died-

I got a 80mm pwm fan (be quiet silent wing) and i am wondering what shoulda i do.I Don't know do i have 4 pin in this psu. I am thinking about replace fan with new one and connect it to the MOBO. Is it good idea?

IDK about fan pins, but from everything I've heard, PSUs can kill you if you open them up. Those big old capacitors can hold a massive charge or something. Same thing with TV's though, and that hasn't stopped me before....

Whenever I do it, I discharge the capacitor with some resistor and confirm that no part of board has charge, by checking it with multi-meter.

Here we go, just googled it quick and this came up. Though he does make the good point it'll void your warranty. Just be careful and you should be fine.

No offence, but have you tried Instructables? It's made by AutoDesk!! and is soo freaking amazing, and is pretty much like this forum, you'll find every DIY project, including planting, cooking, sewing, tech, programming, etc.

Connect the fan to the mobo? The main problem I see is that it'll change the fan speed based on system load, so your psi could be frying itself as long as the rest of your system is cool. The fan controller in the PSU should change fan speed based off of the PSUs cooling needs.

Oh... my bad! Well, then it might be a good idea... or not... I don't know enough about the fans to decide, but I'd advise against hooking it to the mobo.

Well - if in my psu will be 3 or 4 pin connector will be nice

You can open up the PSU and then attach the fan in there, though you'll probably have to cut off the four pin connector and solder it in.

It looks like the fan is soldered in so get out your soldering iron and heatshrink.

If you are paranoid about electric shocks its better to wear gloves than a static wrist strap.

maybe, it'll have one extra, for the speed sensor, which it wouldn't need.

But yeah, buy a standard fan from the market, and make sure the power rating is same, so you might wanna order after teardown, and checking the ratings on the fan.
