Help me to overlock

Go to solution Solved by ericlee30,

I want it for benchmarking & then I'm gonna go back to stock. Can you recommend me what voltage set for 4.8ghz?

That really is determined on the CPU it's self. Not every 3770K can hit 4.8 with descent voltages I would say try to hit 4.6 first and if you are at around 1.34 volts to 1.40 I would say not to try for 4.8 but if you hit 4.6 say some were in the ballpark of 1.25 through 1.30, then you have a really descent chip and you might be able to get a 4.8 OC.

When overclocking heat is your worst enemy, watch your temps at all times as if your CPU hits above 85C you can really start damaging the CPU

For an example, I have a 3570k and a 3770K. My 3570k hits 4.6 at 1.38 volts but my 3770K at 4.6 is at 1.28 voltes. I have never pushed the 3770K past that but with the right cooling solution Im sure it could do 4.8 but not all 3770K's are equal, it really just depends on if you got a good 3770K or not when overclocking.

Anyone here with good knowledge of overclocking? I want to overclock my cpu. I oc'd slightly with OC genie to 4.2GHz, but I want to do that manually to higher numbers, I know this cpu can do that more. Can anyone help me? I'm not good with such things. This is the screenshot of my bios:

Don't use software, it's horrible. Use BIOS to overclock. 'Nuff said

They look like software nowadays, don't they?

Technically, it is.

Here is a easy short guide that I did a while back that will help you overclock your 3770K.

You should be able to push the 3770k to 4.5-4.7 depending on how well the CPU overclocks ,With Ivy-bridge you should only go to 1.4v to get your max overclock, otherwise you will destroy your CPU.

When overclocking Ivy-Bridge you only want to bump up the voltages by 5 every time (example- if you have your voltages set at 1.20 you only want to bump it up to 1.25V then restart you PC and see if it boots up) run prim95 for at least 12 hours but "24 hours is recommended " then just repeat the proses tell you PC is stable. Once you get to 1.45V you then are in the danger zone of destroying you CPU.

When overclocking Ivy-Bridge CPU's you have to go into the bios and find 2 things

1) Intel Turbo boost
2) Enhanced Turbo
Both need to be disabled before you start overclocking, that will keep the cpu from down clocking it's self.
P.S. when over clocking both of these must be disabled, no matter what, if you ever go back to stock clocks, make sure you enable them again.

You also want to find
1) CPU Core Vdroop Offset control
Set it to either 75% or 100% and only those 2 settings for the Vdroop

Start at 4.2GHz, you should be able to get that with just bumping the Multiplier up and nothing else " No voltage bumping, No Vdroop tinkering"

From there change your multiplier to 43, which will be 4.3Ghz and bump the volt's up by 5, if not stable or will not boot, bump up another 5, tell you get into windows, once in windows do a Prim95 test tell i crashes or 12 to 24 hours is up

repeat this step tell you get to 1.4V, at the end, how ever far you have bumped up the multiplier, that will be your max Overclock

P.S. keep an eye on you're temps, make sure you stay under 85c at full load.

P.S.S Disable OC genie on MSI boards when doing manual overclocking, if you do not you will run into alot of stability issues.

Hope this helped,

Ericlee30
