The 4 pin speaker port isn't for the headphone jack, it's for a small speaker you can attach to the motherboard to listen for error codes in case the computer doesn't turn on.

 

As said above, there's a 9 pin jumper, probably labeled HD_AUDIO, AC97 or F_AUDIO or something along those lines.

i cant find it  ive looked and went according to the manual ...... all i can find for the front panel is the reset and power and stuff and the speaker port with 4 pin ..... the power and reset has 9 pins but thats about it

On page 18, you'll see a diagram of your board with the header you want marked as 24. Basically, it's in the bottom row, the leftmost one.
