I've been using my R-pi3 since launch as a smart tv and i have just downloaded the latest rasbian release because its easier than trying to upgrade. I can't seem to find if bluetooth has been enabled yet. Does bluetooth on r-pi3 work? can someone please give me a link?

CNET has this good article on how to enable bluetooth, but I can't verify it works BC my RPi 3 is at home.

thanks ill give it a go when i get home. i would assume it wont be so easy as that article makes out otherwise it would be as easy as bluetooth on my laptop where the drivers are open

Yeah, doing things with the terminal is commonplace on the RPi. Are you a new user?

fuck no hahaha. im not looking for that advice. Iv been using linux for over a decade and i have a post graduate compsci diploma with published research in embedded devices. I sent a post on the local r-pi mailing list same time as this so its unpredictable if i will get any response. but thanks for your input.

im just surprised bluetooth doesnt work on the latest image with GUI yet. I think it must be almost a year since i got the latest pi3 and im just disappointed the image i downloaded today doesnt have bluetooth working out of the box. it's unfortunate, r-pi kind of fails in NZ with import duties and lack of drivers compared to the alternatives

Yeah, some of the compatibility with stuff like this is iffy on the RPi. I used a Bluetooth dongle on the RPi2 with no issues.

I looked at the  the kodi image. it was crap. has a script for apple remote that led to nowhere. Plugins are dead unless you configure your own API key which is pretty exhausted for me id have to set up another account for that. Performance of Pi3 is good though, i like it, just the bluetooth out of the box sucks balls. The main reason i want it working out of the box is to take it to the LUG and promote it but i cant if its not user friendly. for the price in NZ your better off with a Nvidia sheild and that chrome wireless thing. its really sad but ill give it another six months and see if its working in the next image. cheers
