Background stuck on solid color

So I was trying to customize my desktop to give it a little extra... flare, but something went terribly wrong! I had switched it to solid color and found that the colors were displeasing. Then, when I went to switch back to picture it just automatically went back to solid color. I can go on slideshow, but after a while it just give me a small mosaic with the colors of the picture in the slideshow. The advice online suggests a clean install, but I want to avoid doing that. Also, my windows is activated. (they asked that on other forums)
