1st PC build ever

born2relax

Hello, I am building a PC for the first time for gaming and streaming. I was wondering what type of SSD storage should I get: Samsung 960 Pro 1TB or Samsung 960 Pro 512 GB + Samsung 850 EVO 1TB? The cost is basically equivalent for both options.

What is the better and more efficient option for someone who will be playing about 8-10 or so games and have programs like Twitch OBS, Skype, etc on the system?

My CPU is the i7 6850k and GPU is the EVGA GTX 1080 ti.

Have you bought anything yet? I would swing past the Ryzen 1700 over the 6850K as it is less and performs the same. Also I would go with the latter 512 + 1tb

But isn't M.2 2280 storage better than SATA storage?

You wont notice the difference outside benchmarks and without transferring huge files. I would rather have the 512gb boot m.2 and a larger SSD for games

I was told by a friend that I should store all my games on the M.2 SSD regardless of whether it is 512gb or 1TB

no no, that isnt what I mean.

Im saying that an m.2 boot drive is a great idea (I have one). However, the difference between m.2 and SSD isnt noticeable outside benchmarks. Therefore an m.2 boot drive is good (you can still put some of your favourite games on this drive) but I would rather have an addition 1gb of SSD storage over 512gb additional m.2

Im speaking basically - You will have more fast storage with the benefit of a m.2 boot drive

Oh okay got you, thanks a lot. I am going to go with the 512gb M.2 and 1TB Samsung 850 EVO. Which of those 2 storage devices should I store my OS and favorite games?

Store the OS and favourite games on the m.2 as it is the faster drive. As a side note I would go with a crucial MX 300 1.1tb, as its normally cheaper than the evo and has 100gb extra

Oh okay thanks for the advice. I ended up going with the Samsung 1TB 960 Pro M.2 ssd and a 500 GB Samsung 850 Evo SSD.

even better! would have gone with crucial mx300 for ssd though, 525gb there for less than the evo and similar performance
