Is this upgrade safe?

There are no quad-core chips available for that socket (PPGA988). You can only upgrade to another 2nd-gen chip, assuming your laptop allows for CPU swaps. These are the three most powerful chips available for your laptop (2C/4T from 2.6-2.8 GHz base clock i7s)
