Pink dots on screen?

I have a dell 1600x900 monitor and suddenly pink dots have started coming up on some shades of all the colours. Adjusting the display's contrast either increases it or decreases it. It is not a gpu problem as alt+printscreen doesn't show them. Here are some pics of the monitor. I took closeups as then only could the pink color be distinguished.

Can you connect any other devices to it and test?

Have you checked the cable (a big one, since my aunt has pets and her cat chewed the VGA cable and we wondered why the display was pink lmfao) 

Have you attempted replugging at both ends?

I tried reconnecting the cable at both ends but nothing.Also I don't have a VGA cable handy.

Just try to get one when you can and test the display.

Also another thing to note is that I tried playing with the contrast and those pink dots actually increased or decreased with the contrast. So could this be a monitor issue?

Possibly an issue with the control board or panel, yes. Maybe they weren't visible before on the display and upping the contrast made them come up?

Actually when it happened earlier decreasing the contrast made them disappear but now even if i get the contrast to the lowest monitor setting i can still see those pink dots

Again, it could be a cable issue or a monitor issue. I'd suspect the control board depending on the age of the monitor, or the inverter.

what can I do if its a monitor issue?

Probably replace it. Used monitors are a good place to start.

if you're gonna replace *always start with the cable*.

EDIT: also, try plugging in your cable the other way around, probably sounds silly, but it's worth the try.
