Surface Pro 4 Battery Smell

So i bought a Surface Pro 4 for just over a month ago. I was very happy with it, and i still am today.....kind of. So there i was, in my bed, watching YouTube. Out of nowhere, i thought, wow, this really is a beautiful device (i thought). I decided to admire it for a few seconds, but the i noticed the smell. You know, the smell. The lithium smell. The smell of a punctured battery. The sweet smell. Iv'e actually smashed and punctured some lithium batteries before (outside), and it smells exactly the same. I'm kind of worried, as i'm about to go to bed, and i don't really know what to do. Any advice?

Seems like the best thing to do. I don't know what to do with it now though. I'll just have to figure something out

Turn it off, rma asap, keep it somewhere you think is fireproof (maybe if you have a metal box or an empty fireproof safe, I just don't know how you'd safely ship it)

idk, my Surface Pro 3 had a funny smell about it when it was new, it went away after a few months. It was usually when it was hot.

 

If I was you I'd wait a few months, using the battery report command to record if any significant degradation is occurring. I'd keep it in a metal tray just in case in the meantime, just to be careful.
