New Noise Canceling Headphones

I have been looking for a new pair of headphones lately that can block out noise, but have very good sound quality as well. The two main headphones that I have been looking at are Sony's mdr 1000x, and Sennheiser's PXC 550. Are these liable options, and if so, which are preferred? ( I am planning to wear these out in public as well)

The other "stupid" question before people start shouting out suggestions:

Do you mean noise isolating (Closed back headphones) or active noise canceling (Like a pair of Bose you take on the plane)? :)

If your budget is that high you might as well just go all the way and get a bose 35. 

You just can't go wrong with bose no matter what application you use it for.
