I have a unique situation. I work in a secure facility for the Air Force and have severe restrictions on the audio equipment I can have in the building, I am also Cheap and primarily listen to audio books at work.

Imposed Requirements:

No microphones

No Active noise canceling

No internal processing

No internal memory

No wireless connectivity

No Bluetooth

No Radio of any kind

My requirements:

Over the ear headphones

I would like replaceable cords

I would like replaceable ear cups

I would like closed headphones, I know that open headphones give a better sound stage but work is noisy sometimes

Also Cheep would be nice

Thanks all, I know that you guys know way more than I do and hope you can help.

I'm not 100% sure whether the ear cups of these are replaceable, but you could look at the audio technica ath-m50x.  Those are reasonably priced, closed back and have replaceable cables.  The other thing you need to consider is what your source is, if you're in a secure area I'm guessing you can't have your phone so what are you intending to use to play your audio books?

I would stay away from the M50x because they are uncomfortable, bit muddy mids, bad highs and the headband and pads gets worn out fast.

A budget would be nice to know, but some cheap headphones with good isolation and a fairly balanced sound would be the nvx xpt100. They got remove able pads and cable and I think you get two different pads with it.

Before you buy amp and dac.  My thoughts on the M50x  Ultimate Ears Reference monitor review I might have a thing for audio...

My main Headphones and IEMs:  K612 pro, HD 25 and Ultimate Ears Reference Monitor, HD 580 with HD 600 grills

DAC and AMP: RME ADI 2 DAC

Speakers: Genelec 8040, System Audio SA205

Receiver: Denon AVR-1612

Desktop: R7 1700, GTX 1080  RX 580 8GB and other stuff

Laptop: ThinkPad P50: i7 6820HQ, M2000M. ThinkPad T420s: i7 2640M, NVS 4200M
