In short: my rig blew up because of a leaky AIO.... Luckily MSI was nice enough to fix the motherboard (970 Gaming Pro Carbon) and GPU ( Gaming X RX 480 4GB).

As of right now, I will have about $630 to spend on a new CPU, Motherboard, and RAM. My PSU was okay (Corsair RM 650) and Amazon replaced the garbage Silverstone AIO with an h100i v2.

I pre-ordered a ryzen 1700, but have seen very little in terms of benchmarks for it due to the focus on the flagship 1800x. I feel somewhat conflicted, due to the want of having a "enthusiast" cpu, but I do ultimately just want to game. Should I stick with my original idea of the 1700 or something else? Suggestions for hardware are very much welcome; I do love AMD for the prices, but dont ultimately care which company powers my PC if it gives me decent performance.

Also: 16GB or 8GB?

(I planned to pick up the parts from Microcenter)

Unfortunately the motherboard isnt available at microcenter. Thank you for the build, though. Are the Skylake counterparts no longer worth it?

Kaby Lake oc higher for only like ~10 dollar difference

Gotcha! Any other recommendations for a decent motherboard? Unfortunately limited to Microcenter due to a store credit and $30 off mobo when bought with a cpu.

For pure gaming you could also make a good case for an i5 7600k!

How much less performance is it than the 7700k? Again, I'm paring it with a RX 480 4GB. Just seems like there are a bunch more options available and its somewhat overwhelming.

I most definitely can. The only real caveat is the motherboard and RAM. The one absolute necessity I want other of the mobo is USB-C//deciding between 8 or 16 GB

These parts should be available at your Microcenter. I priced it out using a store in CA. With special pricing for in-store pickup, cost should be less than $500 before tax.

80+ ratings certify electrical efficiency. Not quality.
