SSD Help

Go to solution Solved by jared404,

1. Having an ssd in general will greatly improve your build. Sandisk makes ok ssds but you could get better if you spent a little more

2. Your motherboard should have come with sata cables. Any sata cable will do

3. I think 120gb is good for a budget build

4. If you are on a budget I would just get good double sided tape ssds don't care how they are treated lol

Hey folks. I'm in the process of putting together my first gaming PC. I recently got help on this awesome forum for a graphics card. Now though, I need some information on SSDs. I'm getting a Western Digital 1TB normal hard drive for mass storage, but I'm planning on getting a SansDisk 120GB SSD.

So my main questions are;

1. Is SansDisk a good brand for an SSD? A lot of folks bring up Samsung and their 250GB SSD, but I can't afford that much. Especially since I didn't really plan on getting an SSD in the first place.

2. In the Amazon questions I see people ask if the SSD comes with SATA cables. What are these for exactly, and what specific kind would I need?

3. Is 120GB good for just the operating software, and maybe just a couple of games that I will play the most? Since I hear SSDs reduce load times, I'm mainly going to put Fallout 4 and Skyrim on it. Maybe Minecraft even. I just want to make sure it's a decent size for a few things.

4. Would it be best to get a mounting bracket for it?

Thanks for helping me with this, and I'm sorry if this is all super newbie stuff. I'm just excited to finally get a real gaming computer, and play the games I've only been able to watch others play on YouTube and Twitch. lol Thanks again!

Laughing at that double sided tape bit. lol

Which other SSD would you recommend that wouldn't be too much more expensive? I'm pretty set on the SansDisk because it's only $50, and I'm already at my limit funds wise.

I did some quick research and it looks like Sandisk is the best at this price point. I wish you luck!

I would suggest to look into the Crucial M300 series the Sandisk units are good but long term I have heard of issues with them degrading in performance.

While that is bigger, I just can't afford that price. That's why I'm getting a SanDisk instead of a Samsung. I wasn't expecting to get an SSD in the first place, but everyone is saying they are great, so I'm stretching my wallet thin as it is.

Thank you! That's what I noticed as well. :D

Yes having an SSD any one out there, is still better than not having one at all in terms of speed.
