Is DisplayPort backwards compatable

hi all I've been looking at new monitors for my setup but many of them come with older versions of DisplayPort and I have been unable to find if newer DisplayPort models are backwards compatable with them. 

Any help on the matter would be welcome.

Yes, all versions of DisplayPort are compatible with each other.
