I have had so many issues with my network lately. I have two modems. One is for phone, and one is for internet. The internet unit is connected to a router (ASUS RT-56R) which provides most of the Wi-Fi coverage for the house. My house is a bit large, so we have a range extender in our bonus room (other side of house, 1 floor up). This provides more Wi-Fi coverage and gives me ethernet access through a small switch for my server and my gaming rig. Today the internet has been really slow, both through Wi-Fi and ethernet from the range extender and Wi-Fi on the main router. However the ethernet on the main router is fine. 200/20 all the way. Why would this happen?

Doesn't work good for me. I pay for 200/20 and PL gets 12/18.

TP Link AV 500 or something like that. It's spanning across different circuits, so I'm not surprised.

That's a shame. And running a physical wire is not an option? You could go linus style and run it outside the house if you can't drill a hole :D. But other than that I can't directly tink of anything else you can try. If you can't run a wire, and wireless doesn' cut it, you don't have much choice but to move your pc.

Does the room the router is in have a coaxial cable in it that'd be normally used for TV? If so and the room with the range extender has one as well then you could always give MoCA a try.

Here is some info about it if you want to read up on it:

It does have a cable line run to it, but MoCA is quite expensive. Is there a budget option for MoCA?

For a set of two adapters it runs ~$130

I mean what are your other options? Run Ethernet cable to the room itself? Get a router with longer wifi range? You'll spend about the same to be honest lol.

Yeah, that's too much for me. I'm going to investigate running a CAT6 cable around the outside of the house, but we don't really have much of an entrance into the room, and no attic above. Thanks though!

I don't have many Apple products (That translates to 2 iBook G4s, 4 iMac G3s, an iMac G4, a PowerBook G4, a PowerBook G4, a 2008 MacBook Air, and an AirPort Extreme that I recently blew up on accident).

Wrong power adapter. I didn't get the official one (bought used at a thrift store), and I thought it was the same one as I used the night before.

Thanks. The modem were only using for phone supports MoCA so I may be able to use it with one adapter for upstairs only.

Check to see which version of MoCA it supports. The different versions have vastly different maximum speeds.

Here is what I was able to find on Wikipedia:
