Virus. F**************K!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Go to solution Solved by mpsparrow,

Did you turn your internet off? If not, do that right now before it encrypts other things on the network.

Run malwarebytes or some virus scanner to get rid of actually virus encrypting everything. Once that is gone, there are some tools like shadow explorer that may work to get some of the files back.

So, I've just been hit by a virus. I even know why.

I installed a dodgy "text pack" which I shouldn't have, and the program encrypted nearly all my files on the computer demanding bitcoin to unlock.

I quickly uninstalled the program, but it's left all files of certain types encrypted. I only have a small portion backed up, luckily the very most important.

So far, I am running a virus scanner and plan to restore Windows. If neither of these work (and I'm not expecting them to), I will just rescue what is in a weird enough file format to save, and wipe the hard drive.

What I want to know is if there is anything else you might be able to suggest?

Thanks,

Mr Miserable.

I do not know what that is, but I'd say it's some no life greedy cunt doing stuff in her/his mom's basement. Oh well. Lowlifes gonna lowlife.

I'd maybe format the drive completely (wipe it as you said) and doing a fresh install of Windows. But I guess a Windows restore should suffice.

Thank you. I'm doing that.
