Hi there,

I have two monitors, both of which my PC are hooked up to and the left of which my PS4 is also hooked up to.

In order to get audio from my PS4, I have to use the headphone jack on the back of the left monitor. Not only is the quality bad (noticeable static) but obviously I can't get audio from my PC at the same time, unless I switch the input back every time I wish to change tasks.

I was wondering what I'd need to receive input from both sources to my headphones and hopefully improve the clarity and overall quality of the sound at the same time?

Kind regards.

There are two questions here:

1) how can you easily set up a dual source headphone feed?

and

2) how can you improve the quality of the PS4 audio?

1) The simplest way (which allows the PC to be off when you're using the ps4) would be with a small mixer (e.g.  XENYX502) which has two stereo channels into which you'd plug the PC and ps4. then you can listen to one or both through the headphone output. Physically it isn't too big and can sit off to one side of your desk, maybe underneath the left hand monitor. both PS4 and PS4 Pro have a 3.5mm jack (or at least the specs say they do) which you can get a suitable cable to go to the mixer.

2) This depends on if you've got the PS4 or the PS4 pro. The pro has an optical digital connection on the back which you can use instead of the HDMI audio into something like this Fiio DAC which outputs a stereo signal.

If you've got the normal PS4, then you'll want a USB DAC, something like the Fiio E10/schiit modi if you want that little bit of extra quality, but there are reports that all USB soundcards will work, so you could just as easily get a behringer UCA202 and expect it to work.

Actually it's about improving the quality of the headphone feed via that monitor, not the PS4. The static is there regardless.

Mmm I don't have the pro so it definitely looks like I'll be getting a USB DAC. The FiiO E10K Olympus Headphone Amplifier and USB DAC
