Should I go with a used i7 4770 for £165 and a 4gb RX 480, or a i5 4430 with more ram/ better motherboard/ 8gb 480, i5 4460 with better motherboard,8gb 480 or i5 6400 with 8gb 480. i could wait a bit with the 4470 and get a dirt cheap gtx 1060 6gb aswell. Which will give better performance in games? I dont care much about upgradability, im hoping to keep these cpus for atleast 3 years.

I was gonna say do you live in a 3rd world country or something but then I realised you live in UK well I suggest if you need a CPU that will keep you for 3 years then I would suggest waiting for Ryzen take ur pick and you can buy a mother board for your choice. The X at the end means XFR enabled which automatically overclocks your CPU depending on the cooler however it can still be overclocked1bfc6039-3afd-4e62-b96f-74fb8f9a5a01.png

but the ryzen lineup won't compete with a 4770 for £165

If you can find a motherboard for it, the x79 xeon s are still very strong gaming CPU's and can be found for really cheap! The boards are where you'll get a lot to pay for but if you don't mind looking at some older server stuff then you can get a really good deal

It's really just upto looking around, ebay is the first place I'd go to. I'm in the US and have a e5 2670 on the way I bought for $75, just waiting on a good x79 motherboard to pop up that's just extremely expensive. But for an 8 core 16 thread CPU with a good boost clock its all I need.

why not a 4c/8t for £165 with a £50 mobo? 4770 has better support now anyway

If you're just gaming then the 4770 would be a solid cpu, but if you want to do more maybe later down the ling then I like the idea of more cores so you have room for stuff like video editing or streaming

Neither of those are really my thing. even if they were id probably stick to 4770 for better gaming performance, as it is a priority

If gaming is number one I'd look at finding a 3570k or 4690k, it'll probably save you some money and preform damn near the same in most games

If I'm buying an i5 I'm gonna buy Skylake, as a 4690k costs more than a 4770, and a 4460 costs more than a 6400. I want the i7 to last me 3-5 years
