Hi everyone,

Does anyone recommend file encryption software for a single notepad document? I don't want to use the batch file method. I want to user a username and password for the notepad document. Running Windows 10.

Thank you

Symmetric encryption relies on a secret (the password). There's no point in breaking up the secret in to 2 pieces ( user name and password).

Would you mind telling me really quick how to secure the file with a password using that program?

Hmm, it seems the graphical interface shipping with gpg4win doesn't support symmetric encryption. Here's how to do that with the command line, but I guess you wanted a GUI.

Whereas I appreciate the power and utility of GPG4Win, I wish there were something a little more user friendly. Not everyone wants to wrap their head around hashes, public keys, and private keys.

Private, public keys and their hashes are used in asymmetric encryption. Symmetric encryption just uses passwords and is a part of PGP.

Also, after searching for a bit, I found what seems like exactly what you're looking for. http://evpo.net/encryptpad/
