Forgot Phone's Password

I have an Axon 7 and updated the OS yesterday, when it restarted i was prompted to input my password and to my dismay i have forgotten it, failing almost 20 times with my inputs. What do i do now? Will i have to "hard reset" it? if so how?

Power + Vol. Up is a common key combo to get into the "BIOS" or whatever it's called on phones.

It's usuly called "recovery mode".
