I currently have two 24" 1080p monitors which im happy with but I feel id like a slightly bigger screen and higher resolution for the CAD software I use.

I have been looking at prices for Australian stores for monitors, and I came across a 27" 1440p monitor IPS and a 27" 4k monitor IPS within $10 of eachother.

Is 27" too small for 4k? I dont know whether its worth getting 4k but if its the same price then why not?

I do play games but id probably downscale to 1080p since I only have a GTX970. (PC specs are in signature)

I would also be getting two new monitors.

Here are the two monitors I am looking at:

https://www.pccasegear.com/products/31602/asus-mx27aq-27in-widescreen-ah-ips-led-monitor/

Any advice would be appreciated.

a 970 will have a pretty hard time driving 4K. it is doable but you have to reduce a lot of settings, depending on the game. i imagine for older titles 4K will still do okay with a 970. also be aware of the 3.5gb / 4gb VRAM the 970 has, as 4K consumes a lot of VRAM (again depending on the game). downscaling to 1080p won't help very much.

1440p is a lot better, but it still may be hard to run in some demanding games.

if you're not aiming to play games, then 4K may be better for productivity. however 4K on a 27" is pretty dense pixel-wise.

Alright thanks.

I plan on upgrading GPU probably later this year when new cards are released but yeah I feel larger than 27" is a bit too big for me especially if I am running two in parallel.

I will probably just grab the 1440p one if 27" is slightly too small for 4k.

Well, at least to me 27" is not really too small for 4K, just that 1440p will be a sweeter spot for it I guess. I doubt you will see too much different between 1440p and 4K on a 27" screen other than the desktop space.

Everything aside, I love the pixel density of a 1440p 27" monitor. It's about perfect for two a4 documents side my side, not too hard to push for most games I've tried either.

Silent build - You know your pc is too loud when the deaf complain. Windows 98 gaming build, smells like beige
