Underclock RAM

If I buy RAM clocked at 2400, and my mobo only supports 2133, is it possible to "underclock" my RAM back down to 2133? I've heard that everything over 2133 is overclocked anyways, is this correct?

It is automatically set to 2133. You have to change to RAM setting to XMP to bring it up to 2400.

Ok. The product page says MT/s "speeds start at 2400." Is this a marketing scheme?

That means their slowest RAM speeds are at 2400. This is only obtainable when you go into the BIOS and change the RAM profile to XMP. This is safe and isn't a marketing scheme.

Yes you can always run RAM at looser timings or lower speed than it is capable of if you want.

This means that it can't run at 2133 though, correct?

It will run at 2133 until you change the setting in the bios to XMP.

Nope, it'll run that low just fine. There's just not much point buying RAM that's faster than you can use. Also, the motherboard may only officially support 2133MHz, but there's a chance it could handle more with XMP enabled.
