I'm having a desktop which is a 2011 model. The specs are:

  • i3-2100 cpu
  • Intel DH61SA mobo
  • 2gb ddr3 ram
  • Seagate Barracuda 500 Gb hdd
  • Odesey 450W psu
  • Windows 8.1 pro x64 bit

But from a few months it's having some kind of issues. I switched btw linux and windows. It seems a bit ok on Linux but in Windows the disk usage is mostly 100 percent when using any application like Chrome or explorer. And the shows not responding.

I'm working on a new kabylake pc but it will take a few more months till then i need this pc to work well.

My main use with this PC is simply browsing and web development. Any way to fix this?

I had a similar problem with my old laptop, I was running much older specs than yours. When you have disk usage 100% it is when you are booting up and opening applications. I sort of fixed this by scanning for viruses and optimising disks. When I say sort of, it still took ages to do anything but the disk usage went down a bit to around 70% and everything opened correctly. I was running w7 with early 2010 specs.

go to resource monitor and check whats using all the space it could be due to your low ram it keep righting to the page file  and chrome is ram hungry as hell you could try uping the ram or swapping to a ssd or both.

but yeah check whats using your disks and check your ram usage

When i checked task manager it was a system process that was using the disk!

Swapping to an ssd is considerable as it can used in my new build also but will it fix this issue?

well it will fix the issue of maxxing the drive but you should also have a look at your ram usage since i think your laptop is running out of ram then storing the excess in the page file on your drive and that whats causing the useage but a ssd will make it so it wont 100% the drive any more
