Open up the laptop and look for something on the motherboard that looks like a watch battery. Make sure the computer is off, then remove it for a few seconds before putting it back. This clears the BIOS settings and resets them to defaults, which might fix the problem.

BOIS, most laptops need to be taken apart and the battery (both of them) removed. I'd say it's more likely the machine is dead though, what are the laptop's long model number and specs?

Yours faithfully

Check the label on the bottom, and there is an internal battery that has to be also removed, but it's sometimes soldered on so look for a small, wide button lithium cell, like the ones used in watches and some electronics, usually CR2032

Yeah I removed both it and the regular battery and held the power button for 30 seconds then put both back in and it still didn't work. S/N:NXY1UAA0162361FB3D1601

The problem of it just dying seems a little common for the gateways, I'm afraid I think it's some kind of chipset or host system controller that has died, but some users reported that an ATX power cycle brings it back to life for a few boots,

Instructions for notebooks:
1. Disconnect all external devices you have.
2. Unplug the power adapter from the notebook.
3. Remove the battery from the notebook (if possible).
4. Press the power button and hold it for at least 15 seconds.
5. Reconnect the power adapter.
Do not yet reconnect the external devices, they should stay disconnected. Do not yet reseat the battery.
6. Switch your computer on and test if it boots normally and watch if the power LED lights up.
7. If the power LED still does not lights up, continue with the next steps.
8. Disconnect the power adapter from the notebook.
9. Press the power button and hold it for at least 15 seconds.
10. Reseat the battery. Do not reconnect the power adapter.
11. Switch your computer on and test if it boots normally.

If that doesn't fix the problem it isn't power delivery and most likely some controller, I doubt that will work but there is a small chance.

Well, I'm afraid it's probably dead, are you good with electronics or have a multimeter? I'd say just rescue the data from the HDD, maybe the RAM and screen too, anything that's worthwhile (or sell it has broken for $15) and try not to feel bad about something dying.

I'm decent with electronics but I do not have a multimeter. I'll probably just let it lie around
