Building my first PC

SonicSandor

Hey guys,

I am building my very first gaming pc, and i would like to know if my components will bottleneck each other, and if there are other important things to know. These are my specs:

CPU: Intel I5 6500 or 7500 (I don't know if it makes much of a difference)

CPU Cooler: ARCTIC Freezer i32

Mobo: Gigabyte B250M-HD3P

RAM: Kingston HyperX Fury  1x 8Gb DDR4  (Is 8 gigs of RAM enough for gaming and work?)

SSD: ADATA Premier SP550

HDD: Western Digital 1TB

GPU: Gigabyte GeForce GTX 1060 6gb

Case: NZXT S340 ATX Tower

PSU: Corsair CXM500W (I'm not sure if this will be enough)

OS: Microsoft Windows 64 bit

I will be using my PC for 1080p and 1440p gaming on max settings, and for work or schoolprojects. Will these specs suffice?

Thanks

SonicSandor

the 1060 6gb will do fine for 1080p ultra, but you might need a gtx 1070 for 1440p maxed. the i5 7500 is slightly faster, if it's only a few bucks cheaper get that instead. i'd recommend a better psu, the cx500m isn't very good for an i5 and 1060. try the seasonic s/m12ii or corsair cx450/550m instead. you can drop the cooler, the i5 has one included that'll be enough for it.

CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 5600X Heatsink: Gelid Phantom Black GPU: Palit RTX 3060 Ti Dual RAM: Corsair DDR4 2x8GB 3000Mhz mobo: Asus X570-P case: Fractal Design Define C PSU: Superflower Leadex Gold 650W

8gb is enough, but 16gb is recommended nowadays. I use 10gb just for chrome usually, sometimes up to 16gb. You won't be able to game at 1440p max settings, maybe high though. (At 60fps) for work and school projects it will be just fine, but if you doing anything in Adobe I'd rather use a first gen i7 that's oc'd compared to that i5. Yeah they will suffice for your needs. A 500w psu is enough, but the CX series isn't really all that good. I'd recommend a higher quality psu, we have a thread of tiers somewhere on the forum, but imo I'd choose something from Seasonic. If that SSD is 128gb, it's not worth it, even if it's just for booting. Get a 256gb if it's not already. I would probably not use Arctic freezer, I'd use a noctua or something but their considerably more expensive probably. And the Cooler Master Hyper 212 Evo is the best price to performance cooler out there for like 25-30$ End all: they will all work together, there is no incompatibility, no bottle necks, should work fine but I'd go with a few other things, but that's just my opinion.

  • Get the 7500
  • Get 16gig RAM if work is Video Editing and stuff, if it is Microsoft Word and PowerPoint stick to 8gig.
  • 500W is more than enough
  • This won't run 1440p at Max at all, maybe CS GO or Overwatch but not anything else.

The psu quality is pretty bad, 500 is enough, but the psu is just, no.

why would you get a non overclocking kaby lake i5 there isn't much of a difference unless you overclock. and 8gb of ram is fine for almost any game.

you must be using alot of tabs if 10 gigs is what you pull regularly; 8 tabs now and i'm not anywhere near 8gb. the new corsair CX with the grey labels is fine and of good quality. the 212 evo isn't a good cooler, the cryorig m9i matches it for less while being much smaller while the gammaxx 400 is also cheaper but performs much better.

the quality isn't bad. it was made as an entry-level power supply for office builds, which it is fine as.

imo 4c 4t isn't enough anymore. 128gb isn't enough anymore imo either. 8 gb isn't enough either IMO. Just counted my tabs, 234 using 15.3 gb of ram, I need to update my sig, I'm using 28gb now. The 1060 is good enough, but id rather use a 780ti because it's like 3% better.

Didn't know they improved the psu quality. And I forgot about the other coolers I just remembered the 212 cause it's everywhere basically. And yeah, lots of tabs 10gb is around 140-170 chrome tabs.

a 128gb ssd is usually good enough for a boot drive and still have 80 gb left for programs. if this is his first build it will be fine and that is not a hard upgrade later just add a second ssd.

You won't need an aftermarket cooler if you're going for a 6500/7500, the stock cooler will do just fine.

Can't really give a good budget in dollars, cause I live in Europe and components are more expensive here. But my budget in Euro is like 1000-1100 Euro. Keep in mind that everything is more expensive where I live
