Hi guys and girls

I am entertaining the thought of upgrading my CPU, I currently have an i5 4690 and i am thinking of getting a i5 7600k.

I understand that the 7600k has overclocking and so on.

But what i want to know if it will make any difference to my system.

I have:

Intel i5 4690

2x 8gb ddr3 1600mhz

1x samsung EVO 750 ssd 500gb

Zotac 1070 8gg amp edition

730w thermaltake psu

25" LG Ultra wide monitor (2560X1080)

I know that the chipset will also be newer and have those added benefits but im curious about raw performance.

Thanks in advance.

Just get some 4th gen i5 or even a i7 if you can afford it. 4th gen Intel CPUs don't need an upgrade

Well if OP doesn't have a Z97 board he can't really benefit from an OC'ing CPU on the 4th gen, so at most he'd need to source a Z97 board, which I don't know how common those are nowadays since I recently got a Z170 board.

But he'd be able to reuse his ram, so I suppose that would save him a bit of money.

Though I guess if by some reason OP had a Z97 board, then there's no reason for him to go to 6th or 7th gen from 4th gen.

If he has z97 already then overclockable i5 or i7,if not then xeon e3 1231 would be perfect upgrade.

I do have an z97 board. The only issue is that a 4690k is more expensive than a 7600k. im from South Africa. So the difference between the 2 Cpus in price is half the cost of a Motherboard. I know you get Skylake boards that have support for DDR3.

Skylake boards with DDR3 are not good because new CPUs don't work well with high voltage RAM (DDR3) so it damages the CPU over time

the difference in performance between the 4690 and the 7600k is minimal at stock clocks. And still only marginal if the 7600k is OC'd.

unless you're trying to push high refresh rates, then this "upgrade" is a waste of money, IMO.

You really need an i7 to push high frames on AAA titles. (high frames = 120+)

if you have a 60 herts monitor the upgrade is even more pointless.

I agreed my current Budget Setup last 2015 was Base around the GTX 950 and compared it to my friend i5 6400 and costing $100 its really not that Noticeable but yes some games Gain a lot 4th gen over 6th gen but I highly agree with a margin of difference. But if you have a Cash go with the upgrade if not just keep saving and eventually the time will come where you will really need the Upgrade.

Like my Self from Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 going to a Intel Core i5 4590 was Night and Day. and still happy with the $700 Budget I Had that time and still kicks ass
