Well, it's that time again!  I'm replacing my 4 year old rig (see signature) with a new PC.

I'll be building for the first time, so this will be fun.  Hope I don't screw anything up beyond belief.  (There WILL be more desperate posts for help when I go to build it lol)

Anyways, I've put together a parts list - and I need input on things I should take out, replace, etc.  Keep in mind this is my first real parts list, so it's probably going to need some work.

Let me know!

By the way, I can take current parts from my PC like an optical drive and such.  Pull from there if you need :)

No SSD?

Why micro ATX?

2x4 RAM? Why not 1x8 or 2x8?

well, you do like to leave out the SSD in your builds very often :P but yeah, i agree with the ssd and ram.

Fixed.

Okay, I screwed up.  I took out the SSD instead of the HDD by accident as I've got a 1TB at my house already.

I was honestly stumped as to which motherboard to pick, so I went with a micro ATX as my friend recommended....

I need a recommendation as to which ATX motherboard I should get.

getting a micro-atx mobo for an atx case isn't actually bad per se, but it will make the rig look weird. i can recommend this for the mobo:

can try this for the heatsink, should perform better than the 212 IIRC.

Why not simply add a GTX 1070 and larger ssd to your existing build?

Selling current build to family member, as theirs crapped out and they don't need a powerful machine as they won't be gaming.  I thought that instead of them buying a whole new PC, I'd just buy a new one and sell my old rig to them.

the asrock z170 boards are cheaper but the heatsinks on them don't look very good imo.

So other than optical drive, one can't really take parts from the old build?

Yeah, I can take some parts from his old PC, and throw it into the old build.  (If you know what I'm saying).  But it's old enough I'd prefer not to.

Confusing, I know.

Keep in mind, I am trying to keep the price as low as I can at this point without looking horrible.

Only thing about this is that I was told it's better to get an ATX motherboard, as it'll look better in the 270R case.

My mistake, I clicked the wrong motherboard. Should be  Gigabyte GA-Z270-HD3. Actually I started out thinking of going with an mATX motherboard then when I saw your case preference, I forgot to switch the motherboard.
