Windows 8.1 shutdown issue

Go to solution Solved by ColemanR,

I'm having a similar thing where it sticks on the shut down circle just keeps going and never actually shuts down.

Lenovo U410

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Lenovo-IdeaPad-14-inch-Touchscreen-Graphite/dp/B00CA10JSK/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1383645007&sr=8-1&keywords=lenovo+U410+touch

Ok found a possible work around after going through control panel for ages...

Search for "Change what power buttons do", and in the options, DESELECT "Fast boot up" option.  That solved the shutdown issue.

No clue what the hell that option even does... but it was the only thing that fixed the issue.

Greetings all

I'm having this weird issue since upgrading to windows 8.1 on my new laptop.

Whenever i tell it to shut down, it does its normal shutdown routine till the screen goes black.... BUT... the backlit keyboard and all connected USB devices stay turned on and receiving power.

The computer isnt in sleep mode as the power button stays on aswell, but nothing responds.  I must hold the power button down to force it to fully shut down.

Any help?

Thanks

Specs:

1tb 5400 RPM drive (ugh...)

Noone has any solution at all?

Restarting works fine, but shut down is the only issue.

I even shut it down and left it overnight thinking it was just slow... woke up 8 hours later and the backlit keyboard and cooling fan were all still running... off battery power...

When shutting down the screen almost instantly goes black and thats it....  (no issue when using win8.0, but the 8.1 upgrade has this)

Already have all the latest drivers i could find from lenovo etc.  (they have no bios update though...)

The wonders of windows 8.1...   at least you found a solution for now.

Im tempted to just get a 7200rpm drive and a copy of win7 and dump it in and be done with this shit.

How long have you waited because even win8 could leave the pc on for a couple min before actually turning it off bit would turn the monitor off and what not. This for clean up and makeing the next startup snappy. The of people thought tjis was a issue when win8 came out. I think most people tell their pc to shutdown and once the monitors black leave. This is based on my experience in pc repair and the fact that the people who reported this were technologicaly inclined.

All full driver updates to 8.1 except bios, as lenovo hasnt released any bios update for my laptop model yet.

And as per my 2nd post, I left the laptop overnight at least 8 hours and it still hadnt shut down when i woke up.  It was running off its battery power all night.

Hmm idk what to tell you there... My advice make a image of the drive with clonezilla then do a clean install using UEFI and GPT and see if if still happens once you have all of your drivers on it.

This happened only after i upgraded to windows 8.1.

The laptop came with windows 8, and had no issues during the first few days until i did the update
