What is the best software / linux distro to test if your HDD has gone bad?

I don't have access to windows, and when I do chkdsk, or even test the HDD within the BIOS, I get a bluescreen.

Pretty sure the HDD is gone bad, but I need to confirm before purchasing another.

I'd say you've answered your own question then?

Otherwise you can use hirens boot disk, I believe that has an HDD testing program built in, also has a multitude of other useful apps.

Doesn't memtest86 test memory? I think your memory is faulty that is causing bluescreens imo.

Ye, I kind of solved it.

It was a faulty stick of RAM.

Still testing though. Just to make sure.

1 Stick of ADATA Ram, 0 errors so far

and I took out this RAMAXEL memory, which was probably causing the issues.
