Ok so the sig rig has been alive for over a year and everything has been working like a charm until yesterday. Completely out of the blue the system stopped booting. The reason for this is the BIOS is no longer detecting my solid state drive (crucial m4). So being the geek i am i started the long process of trying to identify the issue.

Here is what i've tried so far and the results i have found:

SSD in laptop (detected and functioning)

SSD in different sata port (not detected)

SSD connected using different cables (not detected)

Selection of HDDs to the motherboard (all detected and all sata ports seem to be working)

Updating the motherboard BIOS and SSD firmware to latest versions (both successful but not detected)

Power cycling the SSD as suggested on the crucial site (not detected)

I have no idea what is wrong as every component works fine. Logically everything should just work.

Help/suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks

Get a Corsair SSD.

That's not very helpful..

Have you tried getting onto Crucial/ASUS tech support? It could be a known fault.

Other than that, try checking the CSM/secure boot in your BIOS and see if changing that helps?

Is the BIOS just flat-out not showing up the drive at all? Or you just can't boot from it?

Contacting them would probably be the next step if i cant get help here.

Its just flat out not detecting the drive.

CSM doesnt seem to make a difference.

How bizzare.. I hate issues like this that make no sense.

Are your SSD/MB inside their warranty periods? Could be worth RMAing the SSD first (smaller and easier to get away with without having to pull everything apart).

The SSD is functioning correctly though.

Is the MB bios up to date? (not sure why that would make a difference if it working for a year before this occured, but worth a try?)

Hope this helps

I thought i would update you guys.

The situation appears to have resolved itself. I came home from work today with the intention of trying to fix the problem and its gone. Everything works fine again. I have absolutely no idea what caused it or why it resolved itself and i hope it doesn't happen again.

Thanks for the help though :)
