ooh uuh. I can't. my cameraphone got ranover by a motorcycle. I'm using a substitute nokia rn.

if you wanna check cabling, I've reseated both the 4-pin (for CPU) and 24-pin (for MoBo)

I also tried reseating my RAM to another slot, no go.

Do you have a speaker nearby (like a beeper)? Else, you should remove all the components, and see if it power's on if you put them in one for one. You can also make sure your FPC (Front Panel Connectors) are properly connected. You can also check if there isn't a extra connector on the motherboard for the CPU (some CPU's need more connectors).

Here's a video on how to connect the FPC on Youtube

Fans don't even move when the power is turned on.

I already tried reseating all the PSU cables on both sides.

I also tried resetting the CMOS battery (unplugged/plugged to socket-thing, CMOS battery for this MoBo is non-removable).

One possible issue is that I'm using an i5-7500 (Kaby Lake) on a H170N-WiFi (Skylake).

However the 2nd-hand seller confirmed he already updated the BIOS for support. And even if he didn't, AFAIK fans should still spin during startup with an incompatible CPU.

Tests:

PSU pin test - ok

Manual short on power switch headers - not ok

Anything else I should try? Or is the MoBo dead already? The CPU is brand new btw.

danng it if he refunds this, I'll have to buy a brand new MoBo and look for a Skylake procie to update the BIOS with it.

I SHOULD'VE LISTENED TO YOU GUYS

Parts can be seen on my sig below. "Baby Cake"

nope. MoBo indicator LED doesn't light up. Fans don't spin (even just for a moment, no).

Can you please post some images of the inside of the case? It can make the process easier.

  • re: speaker, don't have one
  • re: booting 1 component at a time to see which one is faulty, still doesn't boot
  • re: FPC, I know how to connect them properly, and even without them, I already tried shorting the power switch headers and it still won't boot.

SOLVED.

I misjudged a different set of headers as the Front Panel headers (they had the same config).

Kudos to @Factory OC for reminding me about FPC and with that I did some research of my own.

And suddenly I wondered why my FP headers didn't have a color schematic.

anyways all iz well.

Lesson Learned: don't build a PC with less than 3 hrs of sleep.

No problem. I made the same mistake on my first build. Nothing a little Googling can't fix.
