Password for Ethernet connection??

On my old computer my network repairman helped me set up my internet connection. I had internet access as soon as I plugged in my ethernet cable to my desktop, but I also had the option of connecting to a connection called "Broadband" which required a password (it was not a WiFi connection but an ethernet connection).I noticed that the internet seemed slightly faster when I connected to the Broadband connection as well as the default enabled"Network" connection when I plugged in my LAN cable. What is this and is it necessary to set it up again on my new rig?

Have you tried turning it off and on again?
